DOLPHINS 'TYREEK HILL'S AFTER BEING CARTED OFF WITH A DISLOCATED LEFT KNEE

Tyreek Hill’s injury after being carted off with a dislocated left knee, and the potential implications for his season, team, and career

What happened

  • In the third quarter of Monday Night Football vs. the New York Jets, Hill caught a 10-yard pass near the sideline. As he went out of bounds, his left leg twisted awkwardly.

  • He immediately grabbed his knee and stayed down. Medical and training staff rushed in, stabilized the leg (including cutting away tape/cleats), applied an air cast, and eventually put him on a cart to be taken off the field.

  • While being carted off, Hill was observed clapping, smiling, and acknowledging fans. His outward composure drew praise from coaches and players.

  • He was transported to a hospital for imaging (MRI, CT) and further evaluation.

Diagnosis and severity

  • The Dolphins confirmed that Hill suffered a knee dislocation

  • Reports indicate that the injury is more severe than a simple dislocation: multiple ligaments (including the ACL and possibly others) are believed to be torn.

  • Given the combination of dislocation + ligament damage, this is being seen as season-ending

  • One key medical risk with knee dislocations is injury to the popliteal artery (which runs behind the knee). That is something doctors must check quickly, because compromised blood flow to the lower leg is a serious concern.

Implications & outlook

Short term / 2025 season

  • Barring a miraculous recovery, Hill is expected to miss the rest of the 2025 season.

  • The Dolphins will need to rework their passing game without Hill. He is a major part of their offense as a deep threat and playmaker.

  • Other receivers (Jaylen Waddle, Malik Washington, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, etc.) will likely have increased roles.

  • The team’s expectations and strategy may need to be adjusted. Losing a star like Hill is a big blow.

Longer term / career considerations

  • At 31, recovery gets more challenging as age adds constraints on healing speed and full performance rebound.

  • Even with surgery and rehab, there’s no guarantee he returns to his pre-injury explosiveness and speed—especially for a player whose game is built heavily on quickness, agility, and burst.

  • His contract status becomes more critical. The Dolphins have an “out” after this season. Depending on his recovery and performance, they could make decisions about his future with the team.
