"ONLY FOOLS & HORSES ACTOR" PATRICK MURRAY DIES AGED 68

Patrick Murray, best known for his role as Mickey Pearce in the beloved BBC sitcom Only Fools and Horses. He died on 29 September 2025 at the age of 68.


A Beloved Character: Mickey Pearce & Murray’s Career

  • Murray portrayed Mickey Pearce, the scheming, sometimes hapless friend of Del Boy and Rodney, in Only Fools and Horses across 20 episodes from 1983 to 2003. 

  • Before and alongside his sitcom work, he appeared in a variety of films and TV shows, including Scum, Quadrophenia, The Firm, and TV series like The Bill, Bergerac, and The Upper Hand

  • His early life: Patrick Murray was born on 17 December 1956 in Greenwich, London. 


Health Struggles & Final Years

  • In 2021, Murray revealed he had been diagnosed with lung cancer. He underwent surgery to remove a tumor. 

  • By 2022, after further treatment, he spoke publicly that his lung cancer had been declared in remission and that a tumor in his liver was shrinking.

  • However, in 2023, he disclosed that the cancer had returned and had spread to his pelvis, legs, and lymphatic system. 

  • He passed away in his sleep, on 29 September 2025, at Rochester, England. 


Legacy & Tributes

  • The BBC expressed sorrow at the loss of one of Only Fools and Horses’ memorable supporting characters, saying its thoughts were with Murray’s friends and family.

  • Sue Holderness (who played Marlene) paid tribute on social media: “RIP darling Patrick. Much love. You will be greatly missed.” 

  • Fans and fellow castmates fondly remember him for bringing a mischievous charm to Mickey Pearce and giving life to a character many viewers loved to root for (or laugh at).
