New York Mayoral Election, Zohran Mamdani names his transition team
Zohran Mamdani has publicly released a full transition-team list yet, or the names of his transition team members for the upcoming term as Mayor-elect of New York City
-
Mamdani won the 2025 New York City mayoral election.
-
A piece in Politico asked “Who will have Mamdani’s ear on hot-button policy issues?” and noted that his transition team will include veterans of the Bill de Blasio administration and other allied elected officials.
-
But that same article doesn’t list specific names of the transition team.
What the transition will likely involve
Mamdani’s campaign emphasized major progressive priorities: affordability, free buses, expanded childcare, rent-stabilisation and other bold cost-of-living measures.
In that light, the transition team will have to:
-
Work with the outgoing administration to track progress and ensure continuity where appropriate.
-
Prepare staffing plans and policy “launch” frameworks for his agenda.
-
Handle relationships with the city’s major stakeholders (unions, business, community groups) given the ambitious nature of the agenda.
-
Bring in experienced public-servants and political operators who know how the large machinery of NYC government works (which is why veterans of de Blasio’s team are expected).
-
Communicate early to set expectations, given the likely high stakes and scrutiny for his mayoralty.
Why we haven’t seen full names yet
The race is very freshly concluded (he’s Mayor-elect, to take office January 1, 2026) so transition staffing may still be under wraps.
-
Given the progressive nature of his campaign, there may be strategic reasons to delay full public announcements until details are firm (budget, major hires, etc.).
-
Media reports may focus more on top transitions matters and key advisors rather than full team rosters immediately.
