Anthony Geary, the beloved actor who portrayed Luke Spencer on General Hospital, has died at the age of 78. Geary passed away on December 14, 2025 in Amsterdam, where he lived after retiring from acting, following complications from a surgical procedure he underwent earlier in the week. His death was confirmed by his husband, Claudio Gama

Geary was best known as one half of daytime television’s most famous supercouple, Luke and Laura, alongside actress Genie Francis. Their characters became a cultural phenomenon in the late 1970s and 1980s, and their 1981 wedding episode remains one of the most-watched in soap opera history.

Over a career spanning nearly four decades on General Hospital, Geary’s performance as the complex anti-hero Luke Spencer earned him a record-setting eight Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor. 

His contributions helped elevate General Hospital into a mainstay of daytime television, with fans remembering him not just for the romance of Luke and Laura, but for the depth he brought to a character who evolved dramatically over the years.
