Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage hits US, India; Fortnite, Rocket League among affected platforms

What’s Happening Right Now

Amazon Web Services (AWS) — one of the world’s biggest cloud hosting platforms — is currently experiencing a major outage that’s disrupting many online services used by games and platforms. This outage started on the evening of December 24, 2025, and still has effects into Christmas Day (Dec 25). Many gamers around the world are reporting login failures, server timeouts, and connection errors when trying to play or connect to online games. 

Games Affected

ARC Raiders

  • Players are getting errors like ART00004 Network Timeout when trying to connect. Downdetector shows tens of thousands of outage reports for ARC Raiders specifically. 

Fortnite (Epic Games)

  • Widespread “Servers Not Responding” and login/matchmaking issues are being reported. Epic’s status page confirms ongoing problems with Fortnite login and matchmaking. 

Rocket League

  • Players cannot log in or join matches due to backend service errors. Official community channels indicate the team is investigating and working on a fix. 

Other Affected Games/Platforms

  • Fall Guys, Steam, PlayStation Network (PSN) and Xbox Live are also reporting outages or degraded performance.

Why It’s Happening

The root issue appears to be AWS infrastructure problems that are affecting services Epic Games and others rely on for online connectivity and matchmaking. Although Amazon hasn’t issued a detailed official statement about the cause yet, platforms like Downdetector and social media reports show a surge of outages starting around late Christmas Eve. Some players also noticed specific error messages related to EasyAntiCheat (EAC) — the anti-cheat system used by many Epic Games titles. These errors might be tied to the wider outage rather than an EAC-specific problem. 

How Long It Might Last

In past AWS outages (like in October 2025), services were down for a few hours before gradually coming back online. How fast this particular outage resolves depends on how quickly AWS identifies and fixes the underlying issue. 

During outages:

  • Don’t spam login attempts — it can make timeouts worse. Check status pages (like status.epicgames.com) or Downdetector for live updates.
