Publisher Ends Relationship with David Walliams
British author and entertainer David Walliams has been dropped by his long-time publisher, HarperCollins UK — meaning the company will no longer publish any new books by him. The decision was confirmed on 19 December 2025 under the leadership of HarperCollins’ new CEO, Kate Elton.
Reason: Allegations of Inappropriate Behaviour
Allegations of inappropriate behaviour towards young women and junior female staff at HarperCollins were central to the publisher’s decision, according to investigative reporting by The Daily Telegraph.
Internal sources say one employee raised concerns that led to an internal investigation, and that at least one complainant received a five-figure settlement and left the company.
During the period of concern, some staff were reportedly advised to meet Walliams only in pairs and to avoid certain one-on-one situations.
Walliams’ Response
Walliams strongly denies all allegations and claims he was not informed of any specific complaints or the internal investigation before being dropped by HarperCollins. His representatives say he was never given an opportunity to respond and is now seeking legal advice.
His Career and Context
Walliams, 54, rose to fame with the BBC comedy Little Britain and later Britain’s Got Talent, while also becoming a hugely successful children’s author with more than 60 million books sold worldwide. His work has been adapted for television and translated into dozens of languages.
