‘Ant-Man’ Actress Evangeline Lilly Reveals Devastating Brain Damage After Beach Accident

“An Uphill Battle”: Marvel Actress Evangeline Lilly Opens Up About Life-Altering Brain Damage

Evangeline Lilly, 46 — known for her roles as Hope van Dyne (The Wasp) in Marvel’s Ant-Man films and Kate Austen in the hit TV series Lost — has shared a serious health update after a traumatic accident. In May 2025, Lilly was on a beach in Hawaii when she fainted and fell face-first onto a large boulder. The impact caused significant facial injuries and a traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Diagnosis and Impact

  • After recent scans, Lilly revealed that the injury resulted in brain damage, with “almost every area in my brain functioning at a decreased capacity.” She confirmed the diagnosis in an Instagram video and explained that the results were not what she had hoped.

  • The injury has led to cognitive decline and ongoing health challenges, and she described the path to recovery as an “uphill battle.”

Ongoing Health Journey

  • Lilly has a long history of fainting spells dating back to childhood, and doctors previously explored possible causes, though none were definitively identified. She said this injury has forced her to slow down and focus on rest and healing, something she views as a “positive shift” even amid the challenges.
