Jesy Nelson’s heartbreaking update about her twin daughters - "8-month-old twins diagnosed with severe muscular disease"
Jesy Nelson, the former Little Mix star, has revealed in an emotional Instagram video that her twin daughters — Ocean Jade and Story Monroe Nelson-Foster — have been diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1, a rare and severe genetic neuromuscular condition that affects muscle strength and movement. SMA Type 1 is one of the most severe forms of the disorder. It affects nerve cells that control voluntary muscle movements, which can lead to progressive muscle weakness, difficulty breathing and swallowing, and motor development challenges. Doctors have told Jesy that, based on current prognoses, her daughters “are probably never going to be able to walk” and may never regain neck strength, meaning they will face significant physical disabilities. The Twins’ Journey So Far
The girls were born prematurely in May 2025 at around 31 weeks, after Jesy experienced a difficult pregnancy that included complications such as twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS).
Early signs of concern — like limited leg movement and trouble feeding — led to months of hospital visits before the diagnosis was confirmed. They’ve since started treatment, which Jesy says was lifesaving; without it, the condition can be fatal at a very young age.
