North Allegheny teacher Justin Karolski holding the missed field goal ball after the Steelers–Ravens game

North Allegheny High School teacher Justin Karolski and his unforgettable NFL moment tied to the Ravens–Steelers Week 18 game when Ravens kicker Tyler Loop missed a crucial field goal that decided the playoff fate of both teams

Justin Karolski, a technology education teacher and student-activities director at North Allegheny High School, was among the fans at Acrisure Stadium for the dramatic AFC North showdown between the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers — a game that ended the Ravens’ season and sent the Steelers into the playoffs.

As **Ravens rookie kicker Tyler Loop lined up a potential game-winning **44-yard field goal attempt as time expired, the stakes were enormous: a make would have sent Baltimore to the playoffs; a miss would eliminate them. Loop’s kick sailed wide right, sealing a 26-24 victory for Pittsburgh and knocking the Ravens out of postseason contention. In the chaos after the kick, Karolski made an incredible grab, catching the ball from Loop’s missed field goal — a keepsake moment many fans only dream of.

For Karolski — already a recognizable figure in his community as a teacher — the catch turned a painful NFL ending for Ravens fans into a personal highlight and a story to share back home in the North Allegheny district.

Meanwhile, Loop, a sixth-round rookie kicker for the Ravens, publicly acknowledged the miss and spoke about how he knew it wasn’t good right when he struck it, calling it a mishit. His teammates and coach John Harbaugh showed support afterward despite the heartbreak of the result.
