“Weather presenter Carol Kirkwood to leave the BBC after more than 25 years on our screens.”

Carol Kirkwood’s emotional departure from the BBC it’s being widely reported as a very heartfelt moment on BBC Breakfast

A familiar face bids goodbye
Veteran weather presenter Carol Kirkwood, best known for her work on BBC Breakfast, has announced she will be leaving the BBC after more than 25 years with the broadcaster. The 63-year-old has been a staple of the morning show, delivering weather forecasts and reporting from high-profile events for decades.

During this week’s BBC Breakfast, she struggled to hold back tears as she shared the news live on air. Sitting with co-hosts Sally Nugent and Jon Kay, Kirkwood said it was “really hard” to make the announcement and expressed deep love for her job, colleagues and the viewers she’s connected with over the years.

Kirkwood first joined the BBC Weather Centre in 1998 and became the main weather presenter on BBC Breakfast in 2010. Over the years she became one of the most recognisable faces on British morning TV, even taking part in Strictly Come Dancing in 2015 and covering major live events like Wimbledon and the Chelsea Flower Show.

In her announcement, she said the decision wasn’t easy, but feels like the “right moment” to step away, and joked about not wanting to be “coming in on a zimmer frame” in years to come. Kirkwood also mentioned she’s looking forward to spending more time with her husband and enjoying other opportunities — including travel and writing — now that she’s stepping back from her daily TV role.
