Apple’s latest product launch — the more affordable iPhone and the new M-series iPad Air

Apple has officially unveiled the Apple iPhone 17e, a lower-cost addition to its iPhone lineup aimed at users who want strong performance without flagship pricing. This model continues Apple’s strategy of offering capable hardware at a friendlier price, especially in markets like India and globally

  • Positioned as a more affordable alternative to the main iPhone 17 models, often priced around $599 USD (~₹64,900 INR) at launch.

  • Powered by the A19 chip, the same core processor used in the standard iPhone 17 series, with strong performance and efficiency for everyday use.

  • MagSafe wireless charging support makes its first appearance on this “e” tier model.

  • Increased base storage — Apple doubled the entry capacity to 256 GB at the same starting price, giving more value for users switching from older iPhones.

  • Features like a 48 MP fusion camera system, modern connectivity, and satellite emergency features round out a compelling package in its price bracket.

This launch reinforces Apple’s push to broaden its market reach, appealing to customers who want iPhone performance without the premium Pro pricing.

At the same time, Apple introduced the latest generation of the Apple iPad Air, now powered by the company’s M4 chip. This brings significant upgrades to performance and capability, especially for creative, multitasking, and AI-based workflows on iPadOS.

What’s new in the M4-powered iPad Air:

  • M4 chip — Apple’s advanced custom silicon boosts CPU and GPU performance significantly over the previous M3 model, with estimates showing up to ~30 % faster processing and substantial gains in graphics and AI tasks.

  • Improved memory and bandwidth — Apple has increased unified memory and memory bandwidth to support heavier tasks like editing, gaming, and AI features in iPadOS 26.

  • Cellular models use Apple’s C1X modem, offering fast 5G and wireless connectivity, while including Wi-Fi 7 support via the N1 networking chip on compatible models.

  • The iPad Air continues to be available in 11-inch and 13-inch sizes with multiple storage options, and pricing remains competitive for its class.

This refresh keeps the iPad Air aligned with Apple’s high-performance silicon roadmap, bringing mid-range tablets closer to the power of the more expensive iPad Pro lineup.

Both the iPhone 17e and the new iPad Air are launching with Apple’s latest operating systemsiOS 26 for iPhone and iPadOS 26 for iPad — which introduce expanded AI features, interface refinements, and improved integration across devices.

  • Apple has kicked off a multi-day launch cycle in early March 2026, rolling out products throughout the week rather than at one big keynote.

  • Pre-orders for the iPhone 17e and the M4 iPad Air are set to start in early March, with availability expected later in the month in many regions including the US and India.
