Tiger Woods DUI Charge After Florida Crash Unlikely to Hold, Lawyer Says

Tiger Woods DUI Charge After Florida Rollover Crash Likely Won’t Stick

March 2026

A legal expert has suggested that a potential DUI charge against golf icon Tiger Woods may not hold up in court following a recent rollover crash in Florida.

According to early reports, Woods was involved in a serious single-vehicle rollover accident on a Florida roadway. Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the crash, where Woods was found conscious but disoriented. He was later transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation.

Authorities initially indicated that impairment could be a factor, prompting speculation about a possible DUI (driving under the influence) charge.

Legal Perspective: Why the DUI May Not Stick

However, a criminal defense lawyer familiar with Florida DUI laws says the case may be difficult to prove. Under Florida law, prosecutors must establish clear evidence of impairment—either through:

  • Blood alcohol concentration (BAC) above the legal limit, or

  • Observable impairment supported by field sobriety or toxicology tests

In Woods’ case, reports suggest there may be insufficient direct evidence tying him to alcohol or illegal substance use at the time of the crash.

The attorney noted that:

  • No confirmed BAC results have been released

  • Injuries sustained in the crash could explain disorientation

  • Prescription medications, if involved, complicate DUI prosecution

Possible Role of Medication

Woods has previously disclosed the use of prescription medications following multiple surgeries. If medication played a role, prosecutors would still need to prove that it impaired his ability to drive—a significantly higher legal hurdle than alcohol-related DUI cases.

Past Context

This isn’t the first time Woods has faced scrutiny related to driving incidents. In 2017, he was arrested in Florida on suspicion of DUI, later attributed to an unexpected reaction to prescription medications. He ultimately pleaded guilty to reckless driving.

Local authorities in Florida continue to investigate the cause of the crash, including:

  • Vehicle speed and road conditions

  • Mechanical failure

  • Possible driver impairment

Officials have not yet confirmed whether formal charges will be filed.
